Giant U.S.-based law firm with worldwide presence
The customer needed significant upgrades to three of its data centers which were faced with network bottlenecks causing slow traffic and inefficient performance.
SHI recommended HPE Virtual Connect FlexFabric to connect the virtualized server blades to the customer’s data, as well as Cisco switching.
- Simplicity of the entire system design.
- Additional ports for easy management using Virtual Connect Manager or OneView.
- Expansion of bandwidth available to the customer.
When coordinating the efforts of 1,000 lawyers in nine locations around the globe, the last thing a law firm needs is a slow internal network connection.
A global law firm was in need of significant upgrades on three of its data centers – two in the U.S. and one in the U.K. - due to aging technology. The U.S.-controlled facilities struggled with network bottlenecks – causing slow traffic and inefficient performance for its 4,000 end-users. The U.K. data center required additional infrastructure, such as servers and networking appliances, to support increases in demand.
A long-time customer of nearly 20 years, the firm turned to SHI for help managing the intricacies of international data center procurement.
SHI’s system engineers performed several data center assessments to help analyze and examine the customer’s environment, both in the U.S. and in the U.K. After exploring various options, including non-virtual connects and pass-throughs, the HPE Virtual Connect FlexFabric revealed itself as the simplest, most flexible way to connect the virtualized server blades. In addition, the Virtual Connect Manager and/or OneView could easily manage the extra ports, when needed. SHI recommended a solution that included HPE Virtual Connect FlexFabric-20/40 F8 Modules for their C7000 blade enclosure for both U.S. data centers.
The forward-looking solution also greatly expanded the amount of bandwidth available to the customer and provided them with a better option for the long-term future, while at the same time keeping their environment running well throughout the transition.
For the U.K. data center, SHI also recommended:
- HPE servers
- (4) Cisco Catalyst 3850 series switches
- (2) Cisco ASA 5516’s
- (1) Cisco 4221 Integrated Services Router
- (1) Cisco 4431 Integrated Services Router
The U.K. solution met all of the requirements for building out the data center, and executed each phase within the established deadlines.
The project took four months to complete and saved the customer over $30k in procurement and deployment costs.
SHI is currently analyzing the law firm’s Smart Net renewal to optimize their usage of Cisco technical support.
