Many remember the days when "Eyes up front!" meant pay attention to the part of the lesson plan available only on the chalkboard. Thanks to modern education initiatives utilizing technology, students, parents and teachers can communicate easier than ever through Chromebooks and Google Classroom.

Challenge:

A K-12 school district in Louisiana was due for a refresh on all of the devices across its 20 schools. Not only did administrators need to supply faculty, staff and computer labs with new, more modern devices, but the district was also facing a bigger challenge – equipping all 8,500 students with their own devices as part of an inaugural one-to-one initiative.

Solution:

In an effort to integrate Google Classroom, which helps educators create classes, distribute assignments, and send feedback online, the school district was considering Lenovo Chromebooks. The customer was familiar with Lenovo – having already used several Chromebooks in the past – but needed to ensure their loyalty to Lenovo was rewarded with competitive pricing. Facing a tight internal deadline, the customer had no time to waste as they needed to roll out the first phase of the integration in the upcoming months.

SHI's Lenovo specialists worked closely with Lenovo to access any and all available discounts – enabling the customer to take advantage of a special promotion – allowing the district to purchase the refreshed technology at a 50% discount!

In just a matter of weeks, (1,500) N23 Lenovo Chromebooks arrived ready to be deployed throughout 20 different locations. To complete the project, the district added an additional (900) Chromebooks, (65) Lenovo ThinkCentre M710q Tiny Desktops for their computer labs and (35) ThinkPad Yoga 260 laptops for faculty and staff, as well as software and peripherals for each device.

In the end, the customer saved over $10k in real-world dollars in the first phase of their rollout and SHI ensured a smooth, compliant procurement process by utilizing the correct state contract.

SHI and the district are currently working on the second phase of this project, with an expected rollout of approximately 7,000 more Chromebooks in 2018 and an additional rollout of almost 9,000 units in the following year.
