A molecular and diagnostic tests provider.
The customer needed a secondary storage solution to house patient data for extended periods of time and also had difficulty managing their billing process for Amazon Web Services (AWS).
SHI created a bridge from their on-premises storage to AWS' S3, delivering a speedy network connection between the data center and AWS. Addressing the customer's AWS billing issue, SHI utilized CloudHealth Technologies to analyze and identify end user data usage.
- Customer reduced overall storage costs by 50%
- Customer reduced its monthly compute spend by 30%
- Ease of management for employees
A molecular and diagnostic tests provider who excels at preparing patients for health risks needed help preparing themselves for the possibility of data loss. They knew it was time to back up their rapidly-growing and vitally important data onto an off-premises storage solution, before disaster struck.
Backing up sensitive data to local storage in their on-prem data center, the diagnostic tests provider didn't have a secondary storage solution to house patient data for extended periods of time. With 550 end users, 800 devices, and hundreds of thousands of clients across the U.S., they did not have an effective disaster recovery solution in place in case an unforeseen event threw their business amok.
In addition, this customer was having difficulty managing their billing process for existing Amazon Web Services (AWS) and needed help better understanding their end user AWS usage, utilization, spend and overall optimization.
SHI's solution architects conducted a storage assessment and designed a new solution to incorporate AWS storage gateway – creating a bridge from their on-premises storage to AWS' S3. After the customer completed a 30-day evaluation of AWS storage gateway, SHI delivered a speedy network connection between the data center and AWS.
To help the customer with AWS billing, SHI's AWS team utilized CloudHealth Technologies to analyze and identify end user data usage. Together, SHI and CloudHealth recommended ways for the customer to better manage monthly spend, reduce costs, and ultimately re-bill end users based on their individual AWS usage.
After the two-month assessment and implementation process, a solution leveraging AWS Storage Gateway helped the customer reduce overall storage costs by 50% while the CloudHealth tool reduced the company's monthly compute spend by 30% and provided increased ease of management to their IT staff.
The end result: the diagnostic tests provider was able to simultaneously implement a solid disaster recovery solution while reducing computing and storage costs through a better understanding of their AWS consumption and billing.
