A Texas-based law firm – with 800+ lawyers – specializing in areas including, energy, oil and gas, finance, real estate, and much more.
The law firm’s storage and backup maintenance and services had expired, pushing them to the “legal” limits of their grace period.
SHI performed a Storage Assessment to identify capacity and availability requirements, and recommended a combined solution of Pure Storage, Veeam and Quantum.
- Better overall performance
- Improved response to applications
- Upfront cost savings - $2.5M
A Texas-sized law firm was in need of a new storage and backup solution. The maintenance and services agreement on their existing storage platform had expired, and these Lone Star counselors were pushing the “legal” limits of their grace period to explore the possibility of cutting costs while increasing capacity.
With an unattractive renewal offer on the table from the incumbent vendor, switching technologies – or at least entertaining alternative offers – seemed a distinct possibility. But how could the firm switch storage solutions without impacting the ability of 800 lawyers across multiple offices to access countless documents housed in two different data centers?
SHI performed a Storage Assessment to identify capacity and availability requirements. After examining the customer’s environment, reviewing the renewal offer and providing alternatives that combined the best of multiple technologies, a clear winner emerged.
A combined solution of Pure Storage, Veeam data domain, and Quantum DXi (to backup production applications) came in at half the cost of the proposed renewal offer, saving the firm over $2.5 million. The solution included two Pure Storage FlashArrays (112 total TB’s), two Quantum DXi6900s (136 TB Usable Capacity) and Veeam Availability Suite Enterprise Plus for VMware (including Backup & Replication Enterprise Plus + Veeam ONE).
The combined, best-of-breed solution out-performed the original solid state disk storage array, required less maintenance and provided better overall performance with an improved response to applications. In addition to upfront cost-savings, SHI structured a procurement solution that helped the firm project a flat, predictable total cost of ownership for the next seven years.
After a Pure Storage engineer demonstrated and tested the solution, the project took four months to complete, including delivery and installation. In addition to helping the law firm strategize, design and properly source the final solution, SHI bridged the agreement grace period by providing third party maintenance for the law firm’s expired storage arrays while the migration took place.
Having reaped positive performance results and long-term financial benefits from the solution, the law firm is currently a strong advocate for Pure Storage and plans on continuing using the platform in the future.
