Microsoft Select Plus Licensing

Select Plus is recommended for organizations with 250 or more desktop PCs and is a cost-effective way to make transactional purchases. It offers many additional benefits, including the ability to do the following:

  • Manage assets more easily with visibility across the entire organization and centralized reporting because all affiliate purchases are tied to their own unique customer IDs.
  • Get more value out of licensing with automatic price savings for purchases across the entire organization and the full value of Microsoft Software Assurance coverage, no matter when you purchase it.
  • Streamline the contract process with a single organization-wide agreement that never expires, Software Assurance alignment, and licensing consolidation.

Order Requirements

The initial order for each product pool must meet a minimum of 500 points for a customer to begin acquiring licenses in that pool (applications, systems, and servers). Point qualification is always at the pool level. Customers can acquire licenses under single pools. If customers acquire licenses under multiple pools, they must qualify with 500 minimum points per pool. However, existing customers can qualify with an active Enterprise Agreement. Customers receive the corresponding price level for their total points through the duration of that qualifying enrollment. And Select Plus compliance is waived as long as the qualifying agreement is active. Existing customers can also qualify with a Select License or other Volume Licensing agreement, if they have acquired 500 points or more in the past 12 months. The initial price level is determined based on the points acquired in the qualifying Volume Licensing agreement. If this option is used, compliance checking will begin at the end of the first year.

A compliance check is conducted once per year at the agreement anniversary, and this is the only time customers can be moved down a level in Select Plus, with a maximum decrease of one price level per year. At any time in the year, customers can move up a level. The order that qualifies customers for the next discount threshold (ex., Level A to Level B, C, or D) receives the discount. Customers with an active Enterprise Agreement receive the corresponding price level for their total points through the duration of that qualifying enrollment, and annual compliance is waived. For customers with an existing Select License or other Volume Licensing agreement, the initial price level is determined based on the points acquired in the qualifying Volume Licensing agreement and must comply with annual point minimums. Government and academic organizations need to comply with the annual point minimum. Customers at price Level A with fewer than 500 points in a product pool for a given year will have their accounts put on hold for that pool until they reach the 500-point level again. To reactivate any pool, customers need to place an order for 500 or more points for that pool.

Pricing

Select Plus offers automatic tiered pricing with no point forecasting. When a customer moves up to a higher discount based on points, the higher discount is applied to that order. Each offering is assigned a specific point value to determine price levels. Points are calculated based on the number of licenses sought for three product pools: applications, systems, and servers.

Select Plus offers a non-expiring agreement term.

Order Renewals

Every initial acquisition of Software Assurance, Microsoft TechNet subscriptions, or MSDN subscriptions is for a full 36 months, regardless of the acquisition date. To synchronize renewal periods, the initial renewal order will align to the third anniversary of the Select Plus agreement, and customers will be charged the monthly prorated price for the Software Assurance renewal, which is always between 25 and 36 months. Microsoft determines the months between the coverage end date of the order and the next anniversary (1–12 months) and adds 24 months. Subsequent renewals are for 36 months.

Payment Options

Select License offers two payment options:

  1. Pay the full amount at the time of order.
  2. Spread payments across affiliate anniversaries for license and Software Assurance packs or Software Assurance only.
  3. Spread payments across order anniversaries for license and Software Assurance packs or Software Assurance only.

Media Fulfillment

Select Plus include a media kit that contains only the licensed products ordered. Customers can download licensed products for no additional charge at the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center website located at https://www.microsoft.com/licensing/servicecenter/. Customers can acquire media separately, for a fee, from SHI.
